Richard Blackburn - Chief Instructor

Richard began training at the age of 16 in Shotokan Karate. These classes allowed him to build the foundation to his knowledge of martial arts, specifically Kata (forms).

Two years later In 1996, he went on to study Shukokai Karate. Using the skills acquired through Shotokan he in that time, achieved the title of Junior Belt National Kata Champion.

Then, in 2002 Richard began studying Wado Ryu Karate at Yorkshire Martial Arts Academy (YMAA) under Sensei Mark Dixon. This particular school had taken a "traditional style" and adapted it into a Freestyle or "sports karate", which was a break from Richard's traditional roots. Here he was awarded 2nd Dan black belt.

Not wanting to limit his knowledge to just Karate, Richard began training in Weapons (his choice weapon being the sword) Kickboxing and both ITF and WTF styles of Taekwondo, achieving Silver at the 2007 nationals in Glasgow for his belt grade. In addition, Richard appeared in several Independent British Action Movies.

Due to his proficiency he was asked to write the Sword Syllabus for Revolution Martial Arts Network while teaching for a school within that group, and has been booked by other schools to teach seminars on the discipline.

In 2012 Richard achieved 3rd Dan Black Belt in Freestyle Martial Arts and founded the Arashikage Martial Arts Academy.

In 2014, Richard took over the Harrogate and Acomb YMAA schools under the Arashikage Martial Arts Academy banner
